WHAT IS THE EASTER DAY?

Passover was the most significant celebration in the Old Testament time.

Several thousand years ago the Jewish people were the slaves in Egypt. Egyptians treated the Jews cruelly; they made the Jewish people work very hard. The Jews were praying to God and asking him to deliver them. And God sent them Moses, a leader who was to move the Jewish people out of the Egyptian slavery.

Nine times God sent Moses to the pharaoh with a request to let the Jews go. And nine times the pharaoh refused to do that. So, God struck down the Egyptians with the nine dreadful plagues but the pharaoh did not change his mind.

Then Moses announced the pharaoh the last plague to fall upon the Egyptians which would be the death of all Egyptian firstborns.
But at the same time God gave his people the precise instructions on what they needed to do to stay alive.
On the appointed day every Jewish family was to slaughter a lamb and mark the door-posts of their house with the lamb’s blood.

On that same night God struck down all the first-borns in Egypt even in the pharaoh’s palace. But no one died in the houses of Jews. The Angel of destruction passed over every house which door-posts were marked with the blood of the lambs. So, “Passover” means to pass over.
During that night the pharaoh permitted the Jews to leave Egypt.

The Jewish people have been annually celebrating this event as the Passover Day ever since.

The Easter Day nowadays

God knew that his beloved creation, a man, would sin, and he had the salvation plan for people to give them the eternal life so that they would stay with him forever.

It was God Who took the first step so to reconcile with people. He sent his Son Jesus Christ on the earth. Jesus lived among the people; he healed the sick, helped the poor and preached about God and his Kingdom. Jesus showed God’s love to the people.

When Jesus was living on the earth all the Jews used to go Jerusalem, the capital of Israel during the Passover. Jesus and his disciples came to Jerusalem as well. Jesus knew what was waiting for him there…
At that time he was to fulfill what he had come on the earth for. Jesus Christ, Son of God, was crucified on the cross. He died for the sins of all people.

But he rose from the dead on the third day!

All Christians have been celebrating the Easter Day ever since. It is a happy celebration of Jesus Christ resurrection.
That is why on this day people greet one another with the words: “Christ has risen! He has truly risen!”

Reconcile with God!

Easter is the reconciliation day.
You reconcile with a person when you ask him to forgive you and he again becomes your friend.
God waits for every person to reconcile with him.

To do this you need to ask him for forgiveness. God loves us so much that he will forgive all our bad deeds when we pray and ask him for forgiveness.

Do you want to be a friend of God?
You can say this simple prayer:

“Dear God,
Forgive me all the bad things I have done! I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son.
I believe that he died for my sins and has risen!
Lord Jesus, please be my Lord and Savior!”

If you have prayed from the bottom of your heart, we congratulate you - you have reconciled with God!
